Fronted by Years & Years lead singer and It’s A Sin star, Olly Alexander, the UK segment of the event will take place in an East London pub on 25 June, all streamed to YouTube. The YouTube event will also feature performances from across the globe, sharing the spirit of pride that the community have been craving since the pandemic struck.

With YouTube as the event host, special guest appearances have been well thought out in line with audiences who love social media and also love to party at pride. YouTubers Daniel Howell and Tyler Oakley, who both create videos online sharing their honest experiences about growing up in the LGBTQ+ community, their struggles, and their triumphs, will also be appearing to shape the one-of-a-kind event.

Famous faces in the LGBTQ+ community including Munroe Bergdorf, Trixie Mattel, Kim Chi, Monet X Change, and more special guests will also feature during the event.

Mawaan Rizwan, a British comedian who will be co-hosting the show with Olly said: “Pride month is such an important time for so many of us in the community and to be co-hosting this global event, and showcasing some of the most talented Queer people in the world, is SO exciting.

“I can’t wait for you all to join us for a Pride Party like you’ve never seen before – we’re pulling out all the stops and we’ve got SO many surprises in store…”

A charitable incentive

UK viewers will be encouraged to donate to akt, a charity that supports young LGBTQ+ people who are in a hostile living environment or are homeless.

Those watching in the US, will be able to send their donations to The Trevor Project, a charity which provides suicide prevention, resources and support for LGBTQ+ youth.

Despite pride parades around the world attracting millions of attendees, this one of a kind event hosted by YouTube is accessible to those who are unable to attend physical events due to the pandemic, or due to reasons such as not being ‘out’ to family and friends, travel costs or disability.

YouTube Pride will begin on the ‘Years & Years’ YouTube channel at 8pm on 25 June.
